The end of summer is nigh and although you were maybe lucky enough to spend some time under the sun this year and bring back a bit of a tan with you, your hair is likely to be in a poorer state.
Traumatised by sun, sea water and chlorine chemical residues, post-summer hair can quickly become dehydrated, brittle, dull and very difficult to style and manage – which is probably not what you signed up for in the morning before heading back to work.
Hair is usually protected by a hydrolipidic film that gets damaged and broken in when it loses moisture – a phenomenon deeply accentuated when in contact with sun, salt and chlorine from the swimming pool.
You can of course avoid some of the sun’s ill-effects on your tresses by following a strict hair maintenance regimen involving loads of conditioning treatments. Natural products such as those from the Wen hair care range are a great way to stay clear of heated styling tools altogether.
If you have damaged hair by the end of the summer, it’s also recommended to trim any split hairs – when the hair is already damaged, no conditioner, no matter how efficient, will ever totally fix it.
Applying nourishing oils onto the hair should also help, so don’t hesitate to leave them in a little while longer than usual for spectacular results.
Until your hair gets back to being fab, here are a few right on trend styling tips to save the day!
Very trendy at the moment with the 70’s fashion revival, simply put your hair up with pins and knot your vintage-look scarf around your hair.
Another hair hit right now, wet hair is great to look sleek and classy all day and night if you’re heading out. Use “wet style” hair styling products on pulled back hair for a modern teddy boy look.
Braids are all the rage at the moment. Very versatile, you can find many options that will suit short and long haired gals alike.
On the side or on the top of your heads, backcombed for added volume or tidy and ballerina-like, hair buns will save many a morning! For thinner or more fragile hair, use a sock bun to add volume without damaging it.
A favourite on the runway this season, ponytails will suit most girls with medium to long hair and are a no-fail styling option that doesn’t take a lot of time or energy. For added fashion flair and a more retro rock’n’roll look, add a bump to a classic high ponytail by carefully backcombing the top hair section and fixing it with a little hairspray.
