Given London – Selencky Parsons

Given London – Selencky Parsons.

This project, which was delivered on a limited budget, saw Selencky///Parsons transform a soulless, open-plan spec office to create a new home for Given London, a sustainability and communications agency based in Clerkenwell.

Given London wanted a space which reflects their company approach and reinforces their brand, as well as creating a stimulating yet comfortable environment which would engender a social, dynamic studio atmosphere.

Our solution was to create one large scale device which works as piece of inhabitable, folding furniture and stands free of the walls and ceiling. The device defines a series of zones which organise the structure of the studio. These zones are multi-functional and loosely based on a domestic typology to simulate a more familiar working environment. The entrance zone creates a threshold which leads you into the studio and creates a cloakroom and other essential storage space. It also houses a hot-desking position for visiting consultants and video editors. The living zone is used for presentations, meetings and as a quiet working space. It is organised around a hearth which is used for display and digital conference. The dining zone functions as an informal meeting room with kitchen and dining space.

Reclaimed timber from an old Royal Air Force hangar was used to fashion the device. This material was chosen for its tactile, aesthetic qualities as well as furthering the sustainable principles of Given London. It is set in a white vinyl surround so it reads clearly as an independent element. Legs extruded from the floor of the device support bespoke white desks which extend from the walls. A series of vintage pieces of furniture and objects add another layer of texture and warmth to the studio.
