How To Make A Hotel Room Like A Home Away From Home

Stylish and comfortable hotel room with large sliding doors and balcony

We all love travelling, it’s most likely why you’re reading this blog, and in many cases it can be pretty stress relieving staying away from home in a hotel room. A break from the kids perhaps or just a change of scenery.

However, it can become pretty tiresome and lonely pretty quickly, particularly if you’re a regular traveller for work, and finding home comforts can really make a difference.

That’s particularly the case if you struggle with the likes of stress and anxiety. Those feelings can creep out of nowhere, from it being missing family to struggling with cravings having been through alcohol rehab, and just having something that can connect you with home and keep you in a comfortable environment can be just what you need.

So, how exactly do you make a hotel room like a home away from home?

Photographs

Look at your hotel walls and they’ll often be abstract photos of the city you’re staying in, but that’s not exactly homely. In your home you’ll have photos of family and friends dotted around the place, and there’s no reason why you can’t do that in your hotel room.

Take along some of your favourite photos of your loved ones and either prop them up against things so you can get a glimpse every now and again, or even just keep them in your bag and take them out whenever you need a reminder of home.

Your own pillowcase

You’d perhaps be surprised by how many people take their own pillowcases to hotels to remind themselves of home. It’s pretty commonplace and it does make a difference. You get the same feel and smell of what you’re used to when you fall asleep and that can be incredibly comforting.

It’ll also make your bed look that little bit similar to the one you have at home.

Take travel size home comforts

If you like to use essential oil sprays or diffusers at home, take them with your or smaller versions of them. Hotel rooms can be rather clinical and this will not only make you feel closer to home, but essential oils can also relieve stress and anxiety, which you may be suffering either by being away, or for the reason you are away.

The same applies for the likes of soaps, shampoos and other essentials that you need. Use the same products you have at home, and they’ll all add up to quite a large home comfort.
