Is your garden looking unloved?  Are you feeling a little lost when it comes to landscaping?

Never fear, we’re here to help. Below, we’ve listed ten simple ways you can improve your garden this summer. Plus, most of them won’t take any longer than a bank holiday weekend to complete!

1. Create A Decked Area

Decking will elevate your garden by creating a focal point. It will also divide the space into different sections and act as a stable platform to place patio furniture.

2. Add An Outdoor Rug

If you’ve installed decking or laid a stone terrace, consider adding an outdoor rug. It will add another level to the space by adding a homely finishing touch.  Garden rugs can be picked up for as little as £25 from the high street, making them a cost-effective way to perk up your patio.

3. Consider Lighting

Planning to entertain friends and family this summer? You’ll need a bit of festive garden lighting to create the perfect ambience of an evening. Consider hanging a string of fairy lights across your fence. Or light up your trees with solar-powered bulbs.

4. Install An Outdoor Bar

An outdoor bar will wow your visiting friends and family. Keep it well-stocked with glasses, napkins, straws and of course, your favourite tipple.  An outdoor bar doesn’t need to be large and expensive. Why not DIY a freestanding unit on a budget?

5. Put Up A Parasol

Place a parasol over decking, a patio or balcony to shield yourself from the sunshine. A sleek, modern parasol will add a stylish touch to your garden.

6. Plant Colourfully

Pack your flower beds full of bright and brilliant flowers to create a vibrant display. Consider each season as you’re planting. Choose plants and shrubs that flower across winter and summer.

We love: the Perennial Collection from J Parkers, £15.99 for a pack of 25.

7. Plant Upwards

When it comes to planting, think upwards!  Vertical planting will add lots of greenery to your garden, plus it will look visually striking. It’s perfect for utilising small spaces (especially if you don’t have much room for beds or pots) and it’ll improve your garden’s privacy.

8. Add A Fire Pit

Imagine gathering all of your friends together on a late summer’s evening and sitting by the fire pit, toasting marshmallows, drinking beer and putting the world to rights?

We love: Barrington Fire Pit, from £110 at Garden Trading.

9. Get A Pizza Oven

Brits have spent decades eating scorched sausages and burnt burgers.  BBQs are so passé.  Impress your friends with authentic Italian stone-baked goodies instead this summer. Imagine sauntering across your garden with a glass of wine in one hand and a freshly-cooked pizza in the other.

10. Buy A Lounge Set

Create a comfortable space by upgrading your bog-standard patio furniture to a rattan garden lounge set. Perfect for spending the weekend relaxing with your friends and family. If the rattan doesn’t quite fit your sty;e, there’s plenty of other modern outdoor furniture options out there. The sky truly is the limit!
