6 tips for styling your garden this summer

Create a garden paradise this summer

The media predicts we’re in for a heatwave over the next few weeks with temperatures rising up to 28C in some areas of the UK.

As it heats up outside, we’ll all want to head out into our gardens to enjoy the sunshine, relax with a cold drink and host BBQs to entertain our friends.

As such, you may fancy giving your garden a little makeover to ensure it looks at its best. Over the last decade, the practice of styling our gardens has soared in popularity.

Now, outdoor spaces are an extension of our homes’ interiors, almost like they’re extra rooms. Thanks to the myriad of outdoor accessories available on the Great British high street, our gardens can also reflect our personal style and taste.

If your garden needs a spruce up, here are a few creative styling tips to help you turn the space into a summer paradise!

1) Outdoor rugs add a splash of colour:

Most outdoor rugs are made from PVC, making them practical for use in the garden. They’re easy to clean (simply grab a mop or hose).

Thanks to their growing popularity, it’s now easier than ever to source rugs in your preferred colour.  You’ll also find a range of patterns to suit your taste.

2) Lanterns create the perfect party atmosphere:

Got something to celebrate? Why not create a festive party atmosphere by hanging bright coloured lanterns from the trees?

3) Create ambience with lovely lighting:

Fancy sitting outside with a glass of wine on the next balmy evening? A few twinkling fairy lights will help create a magical ambience in your garden.

You’ll find a myriad of outdoor lighting options online, including plenty of solar options too.  We’re coveting these fab lightbulb shaped solar string lights from NotOnTheHighStreet.com

4) Keep things cool with a homemade canopy:

If the weather really does heat up, consider creating creating a canopy with lengths of coloured fabric.  Your guests will appreciate the shade on a hot day.

5) Small spaces can be styled too:

Only have a small patio? You don’t need to feel excluded! Make the most of the limited space by taking inspiration from the photo below:

The team at Eco Chic have styled this compact area with just three objects: a chair with a bright turquoise frame, a patterned rug (that’s made from recycled plastic bags) and a matching cushion.

The simple colours don’t overwhelm the small space while the chair’s unique shape and bright colour add a little visual interest.

6) Don’t forget those special finishing touches:

Style your garden by treating it like any other room in the house.  Dress the space with cushions, throws, planters, candles and baskets for a cozy, homely feel.
