Balham, an area situated within South West London, has over the years gained the reputation of being a relaxing area of London with strong community integrity etched into the heart of it.
As an area of London that doesn’t take itself too seriously, it goes without saying that there are many opportunities you have to experience that Balham has on offer.
It’s a Laugh and a Half
Balham is known for being one of the more down to earth areas of London and it is for that reason that it is a real go-to area if you wish to experience comedy.
Banana Cabaret Comedy Club, an old-fashioned comedy venue that plays host to an evening of acts every Friday and Saturday is a fantastic opportunity to have a drink, a laugh and see the future of British Comedy. The club has helped develop comedians such as Harry Hill, Frank Skinner and Rob Brydon over the years.
Every April, the area of Balham cuts the ribbon and hosts the three-day Balham Comedy Festival.

Go along to the London Sewing Machine Museum on Balham High Road and you will get the opportunity to discover the history of sewing machines and even look at its most iconic attraction, the sewing machine in which Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter was given to her as a wedding gift. It’s sew good!

It Has Its Own Cinema-Restaurant
Located in a quirky modern-brick building, Balham has its very own bar, restaurant and cinema called The Exhibit. The cinema shows a number of films that are currently out in theatres and the occasional cult classics. Described as “a youth club for everyone”.
The Exhibit really has a little bit of something for everyone, offering monthly classes in activities from Naked Brunch, Naked Speed Dating, and Drag Brunch whilst offering the slightly more normal experience such as food and drink.

If you prefer though, you can keep your clothes on for most other eateries in Balham.
The Balham Bowls Club is an extremely popular venue for locals and tourists alike. With a reputation of a social hotspot within the Balham area, you should not miss the opportunity to try their wide variety of drinks within the old-fashioned setting of their pub.
Looking for something traditional? The Regent will provide you with just that as a result of their fine booze, food and bingo nights.
The people are friendly!
Whether you are just visiting Balham on holiday or staying there, one thing people often pick up on is just how friendly the people are and how much of a community spirit there is within the area.
Whilst other areas of London are bustling and busy hives of activity, Balham gives you the opportunity to not only find out about the area but get to know the people of the area too.
